Eblana Photonics extends ultra-narrow linewidth laser diode product line to include 400kHz Butterfly Module emitting at 1550 nm for use in communications, sensor and medical applications.

Dublin, July 25th 2008 - Eblana Photonics Ltd. (Dublin, Ireland) has announced that it has completed development of its EP1550-NLW-B Narrow Linewidth semiconductor laser product series and has begun commercial shipments. This latest product series complements Eblana’s existing product portfolio for applications such as GPON, GEPON, CATV and Sonet/SDH.

The EP1550-NLW-B Series lasers have guaranteed emission line-widths specified at 400KHz and below, with highly linear Light Current characteristics and high Side Mode Suppression Ratio (SMSR). The products are already being used in high bandwidth coherent communications applications where, for example, high spectral efficiency, phase encoded signals are used to overcome transmission bottlenecks. Devices are being used in various sensor, medical and imaging applications. The product is supplied in an industry standard hermetically sealed 14 pin butterfly integrated with optical isolator, thermo-electric cooler (TEC), thermistor and power monitor photodiode and each device is shipped with individual test data of the measured linewidth.

Eblana's proprietary laser technology is the key to achieving the unique features of this product:

• Narrow emission linewidth, < 400 kHz, even at low emitted power and bias current
• Mode hop free wavelength tuning by varying bias current and/or temperature
• Excellent wavelength stability
