| Eblana Further Extends Broadband
Laser Product-Line and Announces a TS1000 Focussed PON Laser Transmitter
17th February 2004, Dublin, Ireland - Eblana Photonics, who specialize in the production of precision laser components for broadband access communications, has announced the availability of a new high performance uncooled laser diode emitting at 1.5 mm wavelength for use in optical fibre based FTTH/FTTP and PON applications. This new product's (EP1530) operating characteristics are designed to fulfil the requirements of TS1000-compliant PON transceivers operating around 1.5 mm wavelength - in particular over wide temperature excursions, and in their use to facilitate overall TS1000 system performance with changing temperature. The EP1530 is the latest addition to Eblana's already highly regarded portfolio of laser products whose unsurpassed uniformity in critical operating characteristics allows Eblana's customers to more cost-effectively design and manufacture higher quality transceivers with more uniform operating performance. The EP1530, along with the other products in Eblana's broadband portfolio, operates uncooled at high case temperatures to over 85 degrees Celsius and will be the top choice for TS1000 optical fiber communication applications due to the combination of its TS1000 enhancing performance over extended temperature ranges together with high performance and uniformity of critical characteristics. Eblana's broadband laser transmitter product family provides high performance laser diodes with consistent, uniform operating characteristics, emitting at 1550 nm, 1490 nm and 1310 nm wavelengths. Product Benefits This new product addition was developed in direct response to the growth of PON-based broadband connectivity. In particular the EP1530 operating characteristics were designed to fulfil the requirements of TS1000-compliant PON transceivers operating around 1.5 mm wavelength in particular over wide temperature excursions. "Our products deliver downstream cost savings to our customers by enabling more efficient transceiver manufacture for FTTH/PON applications where affordable consistent high performance is key to the ultimate consumer", said James O'Gorman (Eblana CEO). "Our technology platform and manufacturing approach exploit established microelectronics manufacturing models to allow us cost-effectively deliver cutting edge products to our customers and which define state of the art in precise and consistent component performance. Product Technology The EP1530 Series laser provides stable, uncooled operation to high temperatures (over 85 degrees Celsius) using Eblana's proprietary design and advanced GaInAlAs materials engineering technologies. "Our proprietary technology, allows us to separately optimise epitaxial materials and device structure without the requirement of utilising problematic regrown interfaces," said O'Gorman. Eblana's lasers are designed to remove the difficulty for transceiver manufacturers of cost-effectively manufacturing price sensitive broadband products by improving the uniformity in critical characteristics over existing laser components. "In addition", O'Gorman said, "using feedback from our customers, our product engineering team chose the EP1530 operating characteristics as a function of temperature to ease design and manufacture of TS1000-compliant PON transceivers for better overall TS1000 system performance". Product availability The devices are available now in TO can, chip on substrate and in die format and are already used by key PON transceiver users. Eblana Photonics designs and manufactures high performance laser diodes. The company's products include 1310 nm, 1490 nm, 1550 nm, Fabry Perot and single wavelength lasers for high volume broadband communications. The products are available in TO can, chip on substrate and in die format at transmission rates up to 2.5 Gb/s. |
