| Eblana Extends Broadband
Laser Product-Line
2nd July 2003, Dublin, Ireland - Eblana Photonics,
who specialize in the production of affordable laser components for broadband
communications, has announced availability of a new high performance uncooled
laser diode emitting at 1490 nm wavelength for optical fibre based FTTH/FTTP
applications. This new product (EP1490) completes Eblana's highly regarded
broadband-oriented product set, which already includes affordable 1550
nm and 1310 nm laser wavelengths. "Our product portfolio has been developed to allow
a wider user group to enjoy the benefits of broadband", said Eblana's
CEO, James O'Gorman. Eblana's EP1490 enables broadband transmission applications
as it operates uncooled at high temperatures up to 85 degrees Celcius
and is positioned to be the top choice for optical fiber broadband communication
equipment due to its combination of high performance and affordability.
Product Benefits This new product addition was in direct response to an
anticipated increase in the growth of broadband connectivity in Cable,
ADSL and FTTH. "We have met the challenge of providing a product
portfolio that facilitates high bit rate integrated broadband services
using multiple wavelength channels," said James O'Gorman. He continued "Our technologies allow a laser company
for the first time to exploit established microelectronics manufacturing
models to better deliver value and superior laser products to its customers,
particularly for close to end-consumer The EP1490 Series laser provides stable, uncooled operation to high temperatures (85 degrees Celcius) using Eblana's proprietary design and advanced GaInAlAs materials engineering technologies. "Our proprietary technology, allows us to separately
optimise epitaxial materials and device structure without the requirement
of utilising problematic regrown interfaces," said O'Gorman. "Because
our laser has unbeatable characteristics under these high temperatures,
it performs well in low cost transceiver equipment deployed in broadband
applications". Product availability The devices are available in TO can, chip on substrate
and in die format and they are already being evaluated by key lead users.
Mass production is scheduled to begin Quarter 3, 2003, with a monthly
production capability target in excess of 40,000 units. Eblana Photonics produces high quality, affordable laser products for high volume broadband communications using proprietary technology for scalable volume manufacture.
