"Eblana Photonics (Dublin, Ireland) is also addressing the growing need for high-volume, low-cost production of optical network components for FTTH PON networks. The company's uncooled single-mode diode lasers (available in 1310, 1490, and 1550 nm)-based upon Eblana’s discrete-mode laser technology (an extension of the company's proprietary photonic-bandgap laser-technology platform)-eliminate the need for optical isolators when they are used in optical communications (see Fig. 3).
