Latest funding round at Eblana Photonics raises $4.5m

The Irish laser component company Eblana Photonics has secured a $4.5m investment in its latest round of fundraising, which was led by London-based venture capital firm TLCom Capital Partners. Existing investors ACT Venture Capital and Enterprise Ireland also participated. Eblana Photonics was established in 2000 to commercialise technologies developed in a research initiative involving Trinity College Dublin, the Irish National Microelectronics Research Centre (NMRC) and Enterprise Ireland, and has to date raised some $7.75m in funding. CEO James O'Gorman explained that laser optics play a vital role in the deployment of broadband networks and that Eblana's technology "allows outsourced production of high-performance laser components to contract manufacturers, thereby meeting that market's growing demand for components delivered in high volume, at affordable prices and at the high quality levels demanded by the industry". The company currently employs 10 people and expects to take on more on foot of this latest funding injection.
