Eblana raises USD4.5m in VC funding

Eblana Photonics has raised USD4.5m in a 'Series B' fundraising backed by London-based venture capital firm, TLCom Capital Partners.

This brings the total funds raised by the Dublin-based laser communications company to USD7.75m. Existing investors ACT Venture Capital and Enterprise Ireland also took part in the financing. "This major investment is a milestone in Eblana's evolution in supplying cost-effective, high-quality laser products for use in cost sensitive Access applications," said James O'Gorman, Eblana chief executive.

Eblana Photonics was set up in December 2000 to commercialise technology developed in a photonics research programme involving Trinity College Dublin and the Irish National Microelectronics Research Centre. Enterprise Ireland chief executive Dan Flinter recently identified photonics as one of the areas which the agency would be investing in 2003.
