Business & Finance, June 6, 2002 Eblana Photonics Good to see it's not all doom and gloom in the Irish telecoms sector. Advance laser communications company Eblana Photonics, a spin-out from Trinity College, the Irish National Microelectronics Research Centre and Enterprise Ireland has just bagged another €1.6m in venture capital funding, from ACT and Enterprise Ireland. Altogether the company has raised €3.6m in the last 18 months, which is no mean feat, bearing in mind that most financiers have been running a mile from any telecoms-related project for two years. Eblana claims its proprietary technologies allow for the first time economic manufacture of high performance laser components for deployment in mass market communications. Those products enable provision of high bandwidth communications services over fibre optic to mass business and consumer markets. In other words: welcome back to a constantly-improving information superhighway. |
